The purpose of the Augusta Area School District Hall of Honor includes the following:
- To honor and recognize outstanding alumni, school personnel, and community supporters
- To provide role models in various fields of endeavor and service for the student body
- To provide the opportunity for the student body to meet and hear from individuals who can provide inspiration and pride in the Augusta Area School District
- Alumni: This category includes graduates of Augusta Area High School who were outstanding athletes, exhibited academic excellence, excelled in theatre arts or music, or other outstanding achievements during high school. It also includes graduates who have distinguished themselves and/or shown great leadership at the local, state, national, and/or international level through their chosen careers, vocations, or service.
- School Personnel: This category includes teachers, support staff, coaches, and administrators who have by a measurable standard been exemplary in their work, and who have exhibited an extremely positive influence on the students of the Augusta Area School District. Nominees must have either retired or been away from the Augusta Area School District for a minimum of one calendar year prior to nomination.
- Community Supporters: This category includes individuals who by their generosity, effort, or both have helped create a better environment for the students of the Augusta Area School District and have added to the success, pride, and tradition of the school district. These individuals have made significant contributions to the success of the Augusta Area School District and its residents.
- The nominee must be a graduate of the Augusta Area School District, a former staff member, or Augusta Area School District supporter. Nominees must have graduated from the Augusta Area School District more than ten (10) years prior to their nomination (if a student) or have retired or left the Augusta Area School District at least one (1) year prior to their nomination (if a former staff member).
- The nominee should serve as a role model for current Augusta Area School District students.
- The nominee has distinguished themselves and/or shown great leadership at the local, state, national, and/or international level through their careers, vocations, service, efforts, or contributions.
- The nomination should be objective and verifiable, not subjective and based on opinion or popularity.
- The nominees should represent excellence in many areas of endeavor. The following is not an all-inclusive list, but hopefully demonstrates the many areas of accomplishment for which an individual could be considered for induction into the Augusta Area School District Hall of Honor:
Health Care, Research, Distinguished Military Service Career, Community Service, Humanitarianism, Cultural/Performing Arts, Scientific Accomplishments/Discovery, Politics, Business, Education, Entrepreneurship, Athletics, Leadership, Social Sciences, Public Service
- Maximum number of three (3) inductees per academic year.
- Nominated to the Hall of Honor Committee by Augusta Area citizens, faculty, students, and graduates. MAY NOT BE NOMINATED BY A PARENT.
- All nominees will be evaluated on their worthiness to serve as a model of citizenship, success, and character that our students will admire and seek to emulate.
- All nominations received by the Hall of Honor Committee will remain on file for annual review. A nominee only needs to be nominated once.
- All nominations must be completed using the official nomination form adopted by the Hall of Honor Committee. A copy of the form is attached. A detailed explanation of the reason for nominating an individual must be included on the nomination form.
- The deadline for nomination forms is May 1 of each calendar year.
- The Hall of Honor Committee shall meet by July 1 of each year to review nomination forms that have been submitted.
- The Hall of Honor Committee will utilize the criteria listed under “General Criteria for Nomination” to screen candidates.
- The Hall of Honor Committee shall notify any person who completed a nomination form that does not meet all criteria for valid nomination. A person may resubmit a nomination form supplying any missing criteria items.
- The Hall of Honor Committee shall select not more than three (3) nominees to the Hall of Honor in a single year.
- Any nominee must receive majority approval of the Hall of Honor Committee to be accepted into the Hall of Honor.
- Accepted nominees will be notified both verbally and in writing no later than August 1 each year. They will be invited to be featured in the annual Homecoming parade, be guests of the District for the Homecoming football game, and to the Hall of Honor celebration immediately following the game.
- Upon their acceptance, each candidate will be sent 2 tickets for the Homecoming Game, compliments of the Augusta Area School District.
- The Augusta Area School District shall set the date for the Homecoming game and the time/location for the Hall of Honor ceremony.
- All inductees to the Hall of Honor will be honored with a reception and special award. A plaque will hang proudly at the Augusta Area School District in its Hall of Honor.
