What is an Agriculture Class?
Agriculture classes are electives for students in high school. They are courses to teach and prepare young adults for future agricultural careers. There is also an exploratory class that all the students in seventh and eighth grade take. Agriculture classes also allow students to earn credits in the science department.
Courses Taught at Augusta Schools:
- Plants, Animals, and You = This class is specifically designed for freshman interested in agriculture. It looks at what agriculture is and how it affects you and citizens worldwide.
- Biotechnology in Agriculture =This class is designed to focus on techniques used on living organisms or substances from those organisms to make or modify a product.
- Large Animal Science "ES" =This class explores units in veterinary science with emphasis on large animals.
- Small Animal Vet Science "ES" = This class explores units in veterinary science with emphasis on small domesticated pets.
- Greenhouse Management "ES" - Transcripted = This course is intended to give the students knowledge and skill to successfully raise their own plants.
- Landscape Management "ES" =This class is designed to focus on building and understanding landscaping techniques.
- Wildlife Conservation = This course is intended to give the students knowledge and skills in Wildlife and Natural Resource Management.
- Aquaculture =This course will involve raising native and tropical fish in the classroom. Students will perform water quality tests in a classroom setting. in addition, students will learn diseases, identification of diseases.
- Occupational Leadership = This class provides training for “tomorrow’s leaders”. Students will develop leadership plans,create a cover letter and a resume and practice job interviewing.
- Agriculture 7 =This is an exploratory course to introducing students to agriculture.
- Agriculture 8 =This is an exploratory course to introduce students to the different high school courses in agriculture.
- Work Based Learning = This course allows students to gain real work experience in a job placement.
** "ES" = Elective Science - Students are receiving a .5 credit of science for taking this course.
** Transcripted Credit = Students are receiving 3 credits through Chippewa Valley Technical College while in this course.
