Augusta Elementary hosts many additional programs to help support our students' emotional and academic growth. Some of these programs are outlined below:
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a program that matches young children ("Littles") and a volunteer mentor ("Big") with the goal of building a strong and positive relationship between the two. Our students at AES are matched with one of our Augusta high school students and meet once per week during the school day to engage in activities such as board games, stories, crafts, or just hanging out and talking.
This mentoring program, put on by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, pairs college mentors with fifth grade students to discuss academic and life skills, as well as share information about preparing for college. Although students need to meet certain criteria to qualify for the program, all fifth grade students are invited to attend a campus visit day towards the end of the school year.
Girls On The Run is an international physical activity based youth development program offered to girls in grades 3-5. The girls learn life and leadership skills through a fun and interactive curriculum that seeks to nurture their physical, emotional and spiritual health. The program culminates with the girls and their coaches (volunteer teachers and other school staff) completing a 5K running event.
Playground Pals
All 4th grade students are offered the opportunity to serve as a Playground Pal for the school year, learning time management, responsibility, and leadership skills along the way. Students sign a contract agreeing to accept the duties of Playground Pal, which include reporting to the Playground Supervisor, assisting young children at recess, helping with equipment, and monitoring classrooms during indoor recess. Students who successfully fulfill their duties are rewarded at the end of the year with a pool party.
